Severed is a game in which the main character can 'sever' the body parts of monsters and use them to develop their own abilities.
I worked with Drinkbox Studios to help consult and improve on the UI for the feature that allows players to upgrade their skills, including developing iconography for health and mind upgrades.
Development was based on existing versions of the design. I worked with the team to figure out a language for the player to understand the different states of the upgrades screen, as well as how to balance the number of parts that could be upgraded. The challenge was trying to combine an upgrade feature with what was also essentially a shop.
I also got to draw a bunch of hearts and brains. Yum.
